Celebrities, Facing Summer Temperatures, Head to the Hamptons Again

A New York City summer is no walk in the park. Unless that park is sweltering, humid and overcrowded with confused tourists, anyway.

The heatwave may have passed Manhattan but that doesn’t mean temperatures aren’t still soaring. While most of us city dwellers continue to cling to our air conditioning units, the stars have been escaping to Long Island’s finest stretch of land for some sun, sand and surf.

Katy Perry, Suri Cruise and Hilary Duff have all been spotted in the Hamptons strolling through the streets, frolicking on the beaches and mingling at super exclusive events.

Sadly, most of us can’t spare a few million dollars on a luxurious, shore front summer home. So we’ll just have to settle with loitering in department stores and indulging in a few too many ice pops.

Stay cool, New York.

Katy Perry Reveals Fierce New ‘Roar’ Cover Art

Katy Perry looks ready “Roar” in the just-released cover art for her upcoming single.

Surrounded by a neon animal print border, the 28-year-old singer shows off a tiger-emblazoned satin jacket for the stylized shot. We’re getting more ’80s hair band and less modern pop star from this wild art, no?

Katy is known for her candy-coated sex appeal, but she seems to be laying that persona to rest with her upcoming album, PRISM. She has already released three teasers for her new single and they all not-so-subtly tell us that we should expect a new, darker Katy Perry.

“Roar” will be unleashed on August 12th. What do you think of the cover art?

If you will allow me to be honest for a moment, may I just say that I am perhaps not the world’s biggest Katy Perry fan? I mean, props to her and her eight gazillion #1 singles, but something about her is just so… banal. And her recent performance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival, from whence this photo came, did nothing to alter my opinion. Katy Perry Reveals New ‘Prism’ Single to ‘Billboard,’ Recalls the Time Barbara Walters “Shaded Me”

Perhaps the cutest part about Katy Perry‘s Billboard cover story is that she conducted the interview while wearing boyfriend John Mayer‘s tour merchandise.

But we’ll get to that later.

To start, the cover makes us yearn for summer. (We’ll take frolicking in a field of flowers over office life any day).

Next, Perry quietly confirms in the interview that the follow-up to Prism‘s first single “Roar” will be a tribal power ballad named “Unconditionally.” There’s also a brief roundup of the Prism tracklist. For example, Perry says “Birthday” is “a song that was like what Mariah Carey would have put on her first record.”

Perry also tells Billboard about the time a scheduling hiccup made her late for a sit-down with the one and only Barbara Walters. It also happened to be the time the singer was having marriage troubles with Russell Brand.

“When I got there, I apologized immediately, but then she said to me, ‘You know, I’ve only ever waited for one other person this long, and you know who that person was? Judy Garland. You know how she turned out, right?’ I was like, ‘Oh snap! Yes, bitch!’ I think that’s the coolest thing that Barbara Walters shaded me. I just couldn’t tell her as we were sitting down for a mega-interview, ‘Hey, my marriage is falling apart. Give me a break.'”

The Billboard excerpt, posted Friday, includes a moment where Perry gushes over her beau.

“I can’t believe I’m wearing my boyfriend’s shirt!” Perry says, before going into full Mayer fangirl girlfriend mode.

“He literally is a genius, as is evident from his songwriting. I always tell him, ‘Darling, you know I’m going to have to give your mind to science after you’ve passed, because we’re going to have to understand how all these sparks work.’ We’ll be in bed, and he’ll be doing the crossword puzzle. Every night, he tries to finish it in under 10 minutes. When he puts his mind to something, he really gets it done very well. I always ask for his help.”

John Mayer and Katy Perry are more than just boyfriend and girlfriend – they’re musical collaborators.

The on again, off again lovebirds’ new duet, “Who You Love,” made its way onto the Internet on Monday. The soft ballad is a little bit country and little bit rock ‘n roll and, well, a little bit sappy.

The sleepy track is heavy on Mayer’s signature bluesy guitar, as well as the lyrics “you love who you love.” (He says that a lot.)

Perry brings in her musical flair mid-track. Her verse includes the tender words, “My boy ain’t the one that I saw coming/ And some have said his heart’s too hard to hold/ And it takes a little time but you should see him when he shines/ Cause you never wanna let the feeling go.”

It’s a sweet little ditty.

Katy Perry is already having a huge week. She released her first single off her upcoming album, PRISM (after it was leaked…), and it was just announced that she will be hitting the stage at the 2013 MTV VMAs.

2013 MTV VMAs Promo: Katy Perry And A Tiger Take Brooklyn

Katy Perry is coming to Brooklyn for the 2013 Video Music Awards and she’s making quite the entrance.

In a new promo for the MTV award show, Katy – dressed almost exactly like one of the leads from The Craft – emerges from a manhole and struts her stuff in front of an animal print-clad gang on the mean streets of NYC.

And since kitty-lover Katy has been running with this whole wild cat theme since she began teasing her new single ‘Roar,’ this spot also features a cameo from a growling tiger.

“SEE YOU AT THE VMA’S. I’M BRINGING MY BIG KATS WITH ME,” the 28-year-old pop star tweeted along with a link to the clip.

Miley Cyrus appeared in a similar video promoting the event, where she is seen chillin’ with some graffiti artists and party people in a subway tunnel. Both of the clips are set to the tune of Beastie Boys’ No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn.

It was announced on Monday that Perry will perform “Roar” for the first time at MTV’s big August 25th show. Her fourth album, PRISM, is slated for an October 22nd release.

There was a time when all we ever heard about Katy and John‘s relationship was how often they split up and got back together. But after over a year of on-and-off dating, it looks like things have finally been going really well in recent months, with the couple getting more and more adorable by the minute-wearing matching outfits, dedicating songs to each other, and recording romantic duets (well, just one so far).

To add to the adorableness, Katy wrote the following tweet for John‘s 36th birthday on October 16:

Katy Perry Reveals Why She Can’t Have Sex With Robert Pattinson

Yes, platonic relationships can exist in Hollywood and Katy Perry has found the secret formula.

According to the songstress, the reason why she hasn’t hooked up with BFF Robert Pattinson yet is because she’s passed gas in front of him – and that’s apparently a dating no-no. (So, apologies to my boyfriend.)

“Okay, so here’s the proof there was never anything going on with me and Robert Pattinson,” Perry tells Elle U.K. [via Us Weekly]. “I fart in front of him. Properly fart. And I never, ever fart in front of a man I am dating. That’s a rule.”

Romance rumors first began swirling when the British actor called it quits with his Twilight co-star, Kristen Stewart, in May. At the time, Perry was broken up with her on-again, off-again beau, John Mayer.

“He’s my bud, I’m like his big sister,” Perry explains of the lack of romantic chemistry. “We just hang out. The other day, I said, ‘One of the things I’m most proud of is not sleeping with you, Robert.’ And that’s true.”

In the same interview, Perry says she has been nothing but respectful towards Pattinson’s ex-girlfriend, even going to far as to texting Stewart to dispel romance rumors between the two of them. Perry tells the fashion magazine:

“I sent her a text message saying, ‘I know you’ve seen all this stuff, but you know I would never disrespect you. I’m not that person. I’m just trying to be a friend to him but it is unfortunate that I do have a set of t*ts.”‘
