Selena Gomez is showing off her edgy side for i-D Magazine’s September issue.

The pop star looks almost unrecognizable in one look from her spread, posing in a grungy over-sized jacket and slick hair alongside two models with shaved heads.

Selena’s i-D cover shot is more what we’re used to seeing from the 21-year-old singer – Gomez, in minimal makeup, flashes a goofy face and does her best wink for the cute photo.

Selena talked with the fashion mag about breaking into the business, admitting, “I was actually really shy as a child. My first audition did not go well. I was very awkward. It was in front of a bunch of suits at Disney and I definitely felt I blew it. It took me a long time to let go.”

She also discussed one of her musical icons, the oh-so-influential Ms. Britney Spears.

“The Baby One More Time… concert was amazing. I sat all the way up in the nosebleeds and I could barely see her, but I remember it being the best day of my life. I had my hair in a ponytail and I knew all the words to the songs. I’ll always remember it,” Gomez recalls.

The “Come & Get It” songstress was also a fan of her stripped down photo shoot, saying, “It’s so easy to wear incredible, beautiful dresses and look super glamorous, because you have the power of Photoshop, but a shoot that’s really stripped-down and raw is really fun to do. I was being rained on, it was freezing, I was covered in a giant sweater and my hair was all over the place. I got to just be in that moment and feel like I was there.”

It’s been a good month for Selena Gomez.

Following her 21st birthday, the songstress has set a career record by collecting her first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. Her latest record, Stars Dance, has sold over 97,000 copies in the first week, knocking out Jay Z‘s Magna Carta Holy Grail from the top spot.

Previously, Gomez’s single, “Come & Get It,” reached No. 1 on the Top 40 radio charts – and the former Disney starlet got pretty teary-eyed about it.

In an emotional video she uploaded onto YouTube, SelGo is seen breaking down when she learns the big news.

“I’ve done four records and this is the first number one that I’ve ever had, so I can not thank you guys enough. I wanna thank every radio station, my label, and the most important of all is my fans for loving the song, for requesting it. It means so much to me,” she says.

Maybe she’ll celebrate with less tears and more shots of Jack and hot wings this time.

SELENA GOMEZ Opens Up About LORDE Feud In Seventeen Magazine

SELENA GOMEZ opens up about her feud with LORDE, in an interview with Seventeen magazine’s upcoming issue.

Selena Gomez didn’t find it easy to make friends with Lorde, after the New Zealand-born “Team” singer became notorious in Hollywood for dissing famous artists and calling them “anti-feminist” (among many other things).

Fortunately for the newcomer, it doesn’t seem like Gomez is taking the slight by heart.

Gomez says in her cover story with Seventeen, which also features her on the cover of their upcoming issue

“I recently did an interview and they asked me who I thought was up-and-coming and making a difference. I said, ‘She doesn’t like me, but Lorde.’ I’m going to support her whether she likes me or not because I think she’s doing great things.”

The former Disney child star, who’s currently on a brief hiatus from music to spend some time for herself clarifies that she’s “never met” Lorde, but acknowledges her being “extremely talented.”

That said, Selena thinks the slight will eventually die down.

“Some day I will see her and we’ll be cool.”

We all know the Latina pop star is the friendly type, evidenced by her strong friendships with famous singer BFFs like Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift, whom she praises for they “support females and love to have that empowerment.” She admits:

“I love my girl friends more than I’ve loved any of my boyfriend because they have supported me, loved me, and always stood by my side. Some girls will drop you in five seconds for the right guy. That’s not how it’s supposed to be.“

She also credits Demi for teaching her not to be scared of saying what she wants, because “you’re never going to make everyone happy.” She adds:

“Just saying it out loud is the first step to taking away the fear. It took me a long time to be able to say what I wanted – even with my parents. I tried to beat around the bush, but I realized if I just said what I was thinking, I would feel so much better. It’s not easy, but there’s a way to do it.”

Now coming into 2014, Gomez is hoping for better things, especially when it comes to her career in music. While she “really started feeling powerful,” she aims to quit “doing things for other people” and stop being “very stale with my music” in the next few months.

Surprisingly, she admits it had a lot to do with her “really bad breakup” with Justin Bieber and her need to “pick up everything.”

“I was tired of feeling defeated. All this time, I was so pissed trying to figure out why I felt like such an underdog, and I finally realized I just wasn’t ready.”

Selena now declares:

“I’m glad it’s taken me this long to get where I am because now I’m ready for it.”

Selena Gomez Has The Giggles In Behind-The-Scenes ‘Getaway’ Video

Selena Gomez may be taking on more serious roles these days, but it doesn’t mean she can’t stop for a laugh or two.

In fact, the former Disney starlet was hit with a fit of giggles while filming her upcoming action flick, Getaway. In a behind-the-scenes video Gomez uploaded onto her YouTube account, the 21-year-old was seen cracking up in a car with two crew members.

“Oh, my gosh! This is the best footage ever. If this doesn’t make behind the scenes I’m gonna kill someone,” she said through her laughter.

Starring Ethan Hawke, Getaway centers around a former race-car driver who must drive around and accomplish task in order to free his kidnapped wife. Gomez’s character is known simply as “The Kid” who is along for Hawke’s wild ride after an attempted carjacking. Obviously, high speed antics ensue.

The flick will hit theaters August 30, though the word’s still out if it’ll have more laughs than Gomez’ little on-set video.

This Is Why You Should Never Ask Selena Gomez About Justin Bieber

Awkward.

Given Selena Gomez‘s on-and-off relationship status with Justin Bieber, it’s no surprise the ongoing saga that is their romance is a touchy subject for the songstress. In fact, journalists nowadays have been informed by her camp to never bring up the subject.

Unfortunately for Chicago’s WGN-TV host Dean Richards, he didn’t get the memo this week. During his one-on-one with the songstress, the on-air personality casually rambled on about Bieber’s recent “outrageous” antics while the 21-year-old squirmed uncomfortably in her seat.

When he finally questioned if there was anything “we don’t get” about their situation, the “Come & Get It” singer laughed nervously and looked off-camera – presumably at her publicist – before abruptly cutting the live feed with a title card promoting her upcoming album.

Denied.

Likewise, Bieber has forbidden anyone from playing Gomez’s music at his photo shoots.

From New York to Tinseltown, the past 24 hours have been jam packed with celebrity sightings.

Selena Gomez stepped out in a cropped top and short shorts as she greeted fans outside her hotel in New York City. The “Come & Get It” singer, who recently turned the big 2-1, is scheduled to hit the road next month for her highly anticipated Stars Dance tour.

Elsewhere in the Big Apple, Mel B was spotted in head-to-toe blue as she attended a photo call for America’s Got Talent on top of the Empire State Building. The day before, the 38-year-old joined fellow judges Heidi Klum, Howard Stern and Howie Mandel at Radio City Music Hall for a post-show event.

On the west coast, Mark-Paul Gosselaar made everyone’s hearts swoon as he hit the red carpet for TNT’s 25th Anniversary Party with his Franklin & Bash co-star Brecken Meyer. The legal comedy-drama series will wrap its third season in August.

The multi-talented singer slash actress went straight from accepting her VMA Moonman on Sunday to the premiere of her new movie Getaway on Monday, and she totes owned both red carpets!

For the Westwood premiere, Selenita wore a floral Vera Wang number that featured peplum and a seksi guipure lace insert covering her d colletage.

She paired the look with even more lace via her Jimmy Choo pumps and matched the magenta skirt with Lorraine Schwartz earrings.
