Review: ‘The World’s End’ Asks How Far Would You Go For A Pint Of Beer?

Published June 1, 2014 by gossipzoo

The World's End3-20130618-221.jpg

We’re all familiar with the quote, ‘You can never go home again.’ Well, that’s not exactly true, you can go home again but it may not be the way you remembered it.

That is certainly the case in ‘The World’s End‘ directed by Edgar Wright. Wright wrote the script with Simon Pegg, who also stars in the film.

The writers consider ‘The World’s End’ to be the last in a trilogy; a follow up to ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and the cop buddy flick ‘Hot Fuzz.’

The film starts out with a flashback. The year is 1990 and five high school friends, living in the English village of Newton Haven, attempt a 12 pub crawl. Unfortunately, they never quite make it, stopping before they reach the last pub, The World’s End.

Flash forward 20 years later – Gary (Simon Pegg) contacts his former mates: Andy (Nick Frost) who he’s been estranged from Steven (Paddy Considine), Oliver (Martin Freeman) and Peter (Eddie Marsan) reunite to make it all the way to the end…The World’s End.

Of course, Gary’s mates have changed. They are all family men with careers. Gary however is the same lost dude he was in high school. So for him, this 12 pub crawl means everything.

What starts out as a reunion quickly turns into something much different and the guys soon realize, this isn’t just about beer, but the fate of…humanity.

‘The World’s End’ which opens in theatres, Friday August 23, 2013, is not only a very funny movie, but it’s also clever and full of wonderful surprises.

In the end, it’s not only a story about how far a man will go for a pint, but how far will he go for his mates.

I gave ‘The World’s End’ 4 1/2 bagels out of 5. John seems to have lost his sense of humor and gave it a much different score.

Seth Rogan’s Tweetstarter

I’m using Kickstarter to fund my next tweet. Its a passion tweet I’ve been trying to tweet for years but nobody will let me tweet.

If you donate, you get personal updates on the tweet, although I will be keeping all revenue from the final tweet.

– Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) July 26, 2013

There’s no actual guarantee that the final kickstarted tweet will even be tweeted if you donate, because tweets tend to fall apart in prep.

And Zach Braff’s rebuttal:

@Sethrogen I’m sorry you hate Kickstarter. In any event, I think you’re super funny and I laughed my ass off at “This Is The End.”

And finally, Colbert’s Royal baby fever is still on. And he was just getting over Pope-Fever too (which was in Latin, so he didn’t even know he had it. )

I’ve still got royal baby fever, but I don’t know how serious it is because it’s in centigrade.

Simon Cowell & Howard Stern Are The Highest Paid TV Personalities

Published August 18, 2013 by gossipzoo

Simon Cowell

Forbes magazine just released its list of the highest paid TV personalities, and Howard Stern and Simon Cowell tied for the top spot.

“The X Factor” judge and radio host each made $95 million between June, 2012, and June, 2013. Ironically (or maybe not really), Stern is a judge on Cowell’s popular series “America’s Got Talent.” They are definitely sharing the wealth.

Cowell has been making headlines recently for having a fling with a married woman, who wound up getting pregnant. Oh, and she happens to be the estranged wife of his friend Andrew Silverman. Oops!

Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck came in third place on Forbes’ list with $90 million. He is followed by Oprah Winfrey ($77 million) and Dr. Phil McGraw ($72 million).

Rounding out the top 10 are: Rush Limbaugh ($66 million), Donald Trump ($63 million), Ryan Seacrest ($61 million), Ellen DeGeneres ($56 million), Judge Judy Sheindlin ($47 million).

Jennifer Lopez Settles Legal Battle With Former Driver

Published June 5, 2013 by gossipzoo

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez has reached an out-of-court settlement with a disgruntled former driver.

The On the Floor hit-maker was slapped with legal action from Hakob Manoukian last year amid allegations he was forced to quit over the way he was treated by his ex-boss’ manager Benny Medina. He also claimed he was owed money for additional on-call services both parties agreed to on top of his annual $72,000 salary.

Lopez filed a $20 million countersuit, accusing the driver of demanding $2.8 million from her for his silence, insisting he would go public with secrets he overheard while in her employ if she didn’t pay up.

Her extortion argument was dismissed by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Joseph Kalin in December, and now Lopez has agreed to settle the case with Manoukian.

A notice of the settlement was filed in court on February 8th, although the details of the deal have not been disclosed, reports Eonline.com.

Katy Perry Cools Friendship With Rihanna Because She’s Back With Chris Brown

Published May 4, 2013 by gossipzoo

Rihanna & Katy Perry

Katy Perry is reportedly no longer speaking to Rihanna because the singer doesn’t approve of the Barbadian beauty’s relationship with Chris Brown.

Perry is reportedly unhappy with RiRi’s decision to reconcile with her ex, so she put the stops on their friendship, a source told UsMagazine.com.

The former besties kept their distance from each other at the Grammys on Sunday night. Instead, Perry hung out with her boyfriend John Mayer.

Brown was arrested for assaulting Rihanna in 2009 the night before the Grammy Awards. This year the couple was snapped enjoying the Grammys from the front row. Rihanna also flashed a diamond (engagement?) ring while performing “Stay” at the event.

We can’t help but wonder what Perry thought about that?

‘The Bachelor’ Sean Lowe Takes His Sister’s Advice And Dumps Tierra

Published April 8, 2013 by gossipzoo

The Bachelor

Sean and his remaining six ladies head to St. Croix this week via seaplane…jealous! Next week are the hometown dates, which mean the one-on-one dates are crucial to these girls. Des brings in the first date card and it goes to AshLee. As she goes off to get ready for the date, Tierra calls her a cougar and questions why she is thirty-two and single. What a biotch! Sean and AshLee swim out to a Catamaran where they will sail to a private island. While Sean and AshLee are on the beach talking, AshLee spills the beans about Tierra and tells him that she isolates herself from the rest of the house and isn’t the girl that he sees when he is with her. Then the two have a make out session on the beach like they are starring in the newest Chris Isaak video. AshLee has something important to tell Sean before he potentially meets her family…what will her secret be? AshLee tells Sean that she got married when she was seventeen and it was one of the biggest mistakes in her life. She seems relived that she told him but at the same time she feels like she ruined the moment. Judging by the way Sean looked into her eyes and gave her a kiss, we think that those two will be just fine. Oh, and she screams at the top of her lungs that she loves him.

The next date card goes to Tierra and she couldn’t be more excited, as the other girls puke a little in their mouths. On Sean and Tierra’s first one-on-one date, they will explore the streets of St. Croix but she can’t stop complaining about the heat and the bugs. After he buys her a few pieces of jewelry, they come across a traditional parade with music and bright costumes. As the girls sit at home hoping that Sean will see the true side of Tierra, he only sees the sweet and fun loving girls he met since day one. Tierra expresses her concerns that Sean is distant from her tonight and he tells her that it has to do with the drama in the house with the other girls. Tierra tells Sean that she is falling in love with him and he seems to forget all the warnings from the other girls.

Catherine, Desiree and Lindsay receive the group date card, leaving Lesley with the last one-on-one date with Sean. Sean wakes the girls up (wearing no makeup) and takes pictures of them first thing in the morning….creepy! He tells them than they have five minutes to get ready for their date. They all jump in the Jeep and head to the farthest east that you can go in the United States and will witness the sunrise, first. Sean tells them that they will also see the sun set that night, giving the four an entire day with him. As they explore the island via road trip, the see the sugar mill, have lunch at a caf up north and explore a giant tree house. As Sean and Desiree seem to be having their own date, Catherine and Lindsay sit back in the tree house and pout as they want more time with him. As the group frolic on the beach together (Sean is shirtless, of course) they all try to steal a few moments alone with Sean, so they can take home that rose. Catherine tells Sean that her father will not be in the picture if he does choose her for a hometown date and he thanks her for opening up to him…he always knows what to say! But who will get the group date rose? Sean gives it to Lindsay. Apparently, that wedding dress on day one really stole his heart!

On Lesley’s date, the two will simply chill together and talk. Sean feels like she isn’t one of the top contenders and he needs a little time to figure out if his feelings for her are real. It seems like every time he asks the girls if there is anything he needs to know before he goes home, they get extremely nervous and have something intense they have to share with him. Will Lesley tell him that she loves him or will she blow her chances at getting the rose?

‘Side Effects’: A Satisfying Thriller With Twists & Turns You Won’t See Coming

Published March 17, 2013 by gossipzoo

Side Effects4-20130128-82.jpg

When we meet Emily (Rooney Mara) she is picking up her husband, Martin (Channing Tatum) from prison. He was sentenced to four years for inside trading.

Once living the high life, the couple are now reduced to sharing a small apartment in a not so very fashionable New York City neighborhood.

Martin takes this all in stride. He believes that one day soon, he’ll be back on top.

Emily, on the other hand, is not doing too good. That’s especially obvious, when she drives her car into a brick wall and winds up in the hospital.

After her failed suicide attempt, psychiatrist, Jonathan Banks (Jude Law) is called in to consult on Emily’s case. Desperate not to be hospitalized, Emily agrees to a regimen of therapy and antidepressants.

When the first set of pills don’t work, Banks prescribes a new medication that quiets Emily’s demons. Unfortunately, the side effects of the drug has chilling consequences for Emily, her husband and even…Banks.

Side Effects‘, directed by Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Erin Brockovich, Sex, Lies and Videotape) and written by Scott Z. Barnes (Contagion, The Bourne Ultimatum) is what I’d call a provocative thriller filled with suspense and twists and turns that you won’t see coming.

You definitely have to pay close attention to what’s going on. In other words, don’t leave to buy popcorn.

The cast including Catherine Zeta Jones as Emily’s former shrink are excellent and the film, even manages to get satirical in regards to the pharmaceutical industry and our pill popping society.

I gave ‘Side Effects’ 3 1/2 bagels out of 5. The film opens Friday, February 9, 2012 and if you’re a fan of Soderbergh and this genre, definitely see it.

Check our video to find out John’s thoughts and his bagel score.
