10 TV Shows That Deserve Comic Book Continuations

Published June 7, 2014 by gossipzoo

Stories have always been able be told in a variety of media, and with today’s fictional franchises this is no exception. Walk through any science fiction section of a bookstore and take a look at all the Star Wars and Star Trek books they’re selling; you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Within the past couple years, one media change that has become popular is continuing TV shows through comic books. Whether it’s continuing a show that wasn’t able to find success through television itself or simply using the comic book format to continue the adventures of beloved characters that we followed in years past, this switch has allowed fans to follow their favorite series’ in both a different and unique medium.

DC has been using this format within the past year or so with digitally released comics. First, they continued the adventures of Tom Welling’s portrayal of Clark Kent in “Smallville: Season 11.” Then, for those who like their Batman to be a little more light-hearted than the current New 52 version, they busted out the sound effect bubbles and brought back Adam West and Burt Ward as the Dynamic Duo in “Batman: ’66.”

It isn’t just properties based off the comic book characters, but other types of science-fiction and adventure shows. Dark Horse has been publishing new “seasons” of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” IDW has been continuing the exploits of Agents Mulder and Scully in “The X-Files: Season 10,” and last month Dynamite Entertainment announced that they would be publishing new stories based on the NBC show “Heroes.”

Since these shows are getting second chances, it only makes sense that other shows get the same opportunity. True, although some of these shows have seen tie-in comics in the past, these comic series would be canonical continuations of where these shows left off, whether it was with unresolved cliffhangers or open endings that leave room for more stories to be told.

With that said, here are my top 10 choices for TV shows that would benefit from comic book follow-ups.
