Crystal Palace Transfer News: Jimmy Kebe And Jack Hunt Signings Completed

Published July 6, 2014 by gossipzoo

Jimmy Kebe

Crystal Palace have made two late transfer window signings, reports the BBC.

Palace have announced the signing of winger Jimmy Kebe from Reading on a 3-year deal. The fee for the 29-year-old Mali international was undisclosed, but it is believed to be in the region of 750,000. Kebe hasn’t played for Reading since March, but he’s expected to slot straight onto the wing, replacing he now-departed Wilfried Zaha, who joined Manchester United at the start of the summer.

Kebe said of the move;

It’s a big move for me. I didn’t know if I was going to be able to move in this transfer window but getting back to the Premier League was my main target. I’m very excited about it. I talked to the manager and you can see how excited he is and I’m ready for the challenge.

Palace also revealed they have purchased Huddersfield Town full-back Jack Hunt. The 22-year-old defender has made 104 league appearances for the Terriers, but has only made 2 appearances so far this season in anticipation of a move.

He was quoted on Twitter as saying;

Absolutely delighted to have signed for Crystal Palace. New challenge in my life and can’t wait to get started

Crystal Palace have made 11 signings this summer since rising from the Championship, including a reported 4.5 million purchase of Dwight Gayle, a club record.

Crystal Palace Transfer News: Andy Johnson To Rejoin Eagles?

Crystal Palace are hoping to continue their run as the Premier League’s busiest club in this transfer window by signing old boy Andy Johnson from QPR, according to the club chairman.

Johnson notched 21 goals in 37 appearances for the Eagles during their one-year stint in the Premier League but couldn’t keep Palace from the relegation trap door.

And speaking to Radio Five Live, chairman Steve Parish confirmed that the club had made a bid for the club’s top scorer during their previous Premier League season in 04/05 before announcing that deal might not be the end of their window. Parish said:

“We have made a bid for Andy Johnson we are waiting to hear, that would be a permanent deal. We are trying to get someone else in on loan and we are trying to buy another one as well.”

The news will be music to the ears of the Selhurst Park faithful – with Wilfred Zaha leaving for Manchester United, last season’s top scorer Glenn Murray out for most of the season and club record signing Dwight Gayle untested at this level, the cupboard was looking bare at Selhurst Park.

But while Palace do have strikers with Premier League experience in the inconsistent Marouane Chamakh and 40-year-old Kevin Phillips, the potential introduction of a proven Premier League goalscorer in Johnson could aid Palace’s prospects for survival.

Crystal Palace vs Everton – Team News, Match Preview & Likely Line-Ups

Published January 17, 2014 by gossipzoo

Venue: Selhurst Park Referee: Craig Pawson Date: 9th of November

The Eagles are viewed as the Premier League whipping boys this season. With how newly-promoted compatriots Cardiff & Hull City have performed early on this campaign, Palace won’t want to be the only side going straight back down in the Championship. However, with their main striker Marouna Chamakh making just two shots in the 10 games he’s featured in, it certainly highlights what a difficult task the side has to stay in the division.

On the flipside, Everton are pushing for the Europa League places in the league, and finally look to have settled under manager Roberto Martinez. Striker Romelu Lukaku has been to thank for their bright start, as the Belgian striker has five goals in as many league starts for the Toffees this season.

Team News

Crystal Palace have a number of absentees. Adlene Guedioura and Johnathan Williams are out of action, while Patrick McCarthy, Glenn Murray, and Jack Hunt are yet to kick a ball for the Eagles this season.

Everton have Darron Gibson, Arouna Kone, and Antolin Alcaraz unavailable. Romelu Lukaku is doubtful but could start, while Johhny Heitinga is likely to miss out.

Recent Form

Palace’s recent 2-0 defeat to West Brom was the Eagles’ seventh consecutive league defeat. The side haven’t won since August, and have only scored twice in their last seven outings.

Everton are boasting good form of late. The Toffees are three games unbeaten, winning two – in which time they’ve only conceded one goal. Also the Merseyside outfit have lost just once all season.

Likely Lineup

  • Crystal Palace (4-5-1) – GK: Julian Speroni, DL: Dean Moxey, DC: Damien Delaney & Daniel Gabbidon, DR: Joel Ward, ML: Jerome Thomas, MC: Barry Bannan, Miles Jedinak & Kagisho Dikgacoi, MR: Jason Puncheon, ST: Marouane Chamakh
  • Everton (4-2-3-1) – GK: Tim Howard, DL: Leighton Baines, DC: Sylvain Distin & Phil Jagielka, DR: Seamus Coleman, MC: Gareth Barry & James McCarthy, AML: Steven Pienaar, AMC: Ross Barkley, AMR: Kevin Mirallas, ST: Romelu Lukaku

Crystal Palace vs Spurs: 5 Things We Expect To See

Published September 10, 2013 by gossipzoo

The Premier League season gets underway this weekend and Sunday sees new boys Crystal Palace taking on big-spending Champions League hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park.

There’ll be no pressure on Palace as all eyes will be on Spurs and, in particular, their new signings.

Ian Holloway will be hoping to cause an early upset following his team’s promotion via the Championship playoffs and will be eager to not suffer the same fate as he did in his last season as a Premier League manager – a season which saw his Blackpool side relegated in their first year in the Premier League – but he has a tough task on his hands.

Andre Villas-Boas will be looking to improve on his first season as Spurs’ coach – a season in which the Lilywhites lost out on a Champions League spot to arch-rivals Arsenal by a mere point.

With that in mind, here are five things we expect to see when Crystal Palace take on Spurs this Sunday…

Crystal Palace Transfer News: Could Darren Bent Be On His Way To Selhurst Park?

Published August 25, 2013 by gossipzoo

darren bent 3

Barclays Premier League newcomers Crystal Palace are now the surprise leaders in the race to sign striker Darren Bent, according to the Mirror.

Bent, 29, has made no secret of the fact that he wants to leave Aston Villa where he has found opportunities limited, but interest so far has only come from Fulham and Newcastle United.

Villa themselves have already rejected three advances from the Cottagers for his services, while Newcastle Director of Football Joe Kinnear is looking at the forward as he attempts to bolster their attacking options.

However, sources close to the player suggest he would prefer a move back to London – having played for Charlton Athletic and Tottenham Hotspur in the not to distant past – and would not rule out joining Palace particularly as he hails from that part of the capital.

His current employers have reportedly set a 6 million asking price for a man who has netted 102 goals in the top flight.

It is thought that Bent himself wants to be playing regular first team football in a bid to force himself back into reckoning for England ahead of the 2014 World Cup, having not features on the international stage since 2011.

Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway has already taken steps to strengthen his side ahead of the new season, with the reported sixth month loan signing of unwanted Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh.

But the Selhurst Park based club are lining up other targets and Bent seemingly fits the bill as they prepare for their first match in the top division since 2005.

Palace co-chairman Steve Parish did not shy away in revealing his interest while speaking on Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre yesterday.

He said: “Darren’s a fantastic player isn’t he? I think that you know there’s a number of players that we are looking at. What is fantastic for our football club is to be linked with the kind of players that we are being linked with.”
