Forget your Mini Me! LIV‘s Fur Vest ($198) is so fancy (it has real fur and suede fringe trim!), it’s a shame it doesn’t come in grown-up sizes.

We love how Honor (above) layered babyGap‘s Favorite Fur Vest ($30) under her wool coat for extra warmth. It would look equally as cute over a long sleeve blouse, skinny jeans and cute riding boots.

Malia and Sasha Obama’s Chic Election Night Style

Published November 8, 2012 by gossipzoo

First Lady Michelle Obama‘s style icon status is already trickling down to her girls.

Joining her parents on stage prior to President Barack Obama‘s re-election acceptance speech Tuesday in Chicago, 11-year-old daughter Sasha looked primed to follow in her stylish mom’s footsteps in a gray cardigan, layered necklaces and a Zara bow accented top, paired with an emerald print skirt by American designer Chris Benz and matching J.Crew flats.

Older sister Malia appeared equally celebratory in a scoopneck black top, a hot pink Zara belt, an ASOS peacock blue circle skirt and J.Crew black flats befitting her 14 years.

“The girls have very full lives in D.C. now,” a source tells PEOPLE of Sasha and Malia’s first four years in the White House. “They are very settled and happy.”

While not often in the public eye, the stylish siblings have been known to set trends on the campaign trail in chic, age-appropriate pieces from H&M to Anthropologie. We call that a victory!

Alicia Keys Debuts New Kids’ Storybook App

Published October 27, 2012 by gossipzoo

Now that she’s a mom, Alicia Keys knows that books, music and art have the makings of cool kids’ play — especially in the digital world. That’s why the singer and songwriter launched a new animated children’s app, The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee ($4) for the iPad, iPhone and iTouch.

“Right around the time I had Egypt, I realized I wanted to get into the children’s space. I felt like it would be such an interesting thing to have music span different cultures and sounds,” Keys tells PEOPLE.

For the immersive storytelling experience, the musical mom partnered with fellow parents DJ Walton and Jessica Walton, whom she noted were telling their own kids creative bedtime stories with cool multicultural themes.

And the app’s main characters (a young New York City girl named LeeLee and the wise Mama Mae) were inspired by the musician’s special relationship with her grandmother, whom Keys calls “a big influence in my life … Grandmothers are such a powerful force in any grandchild’s life.”

In LeeLee’s interactive world, kids can read family stories like “Blue Moon,” which centers around the very relatable topic of fitting in, play piano, draw and write in a journal, and listen to Keys’ original songs like “Follow the Moon” and “Unlock Yourself” that encourage kids to follow their dreams — and perhaps even discover a new talent.

“Journaling was a big part of my life growing up. I was really able to express myself, and that probably led me to songwriting in some way,” the Grammy Award winner explains.

And when it comes time to read to her 2-year-old son, Keys says books like Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site are currently on heavy rotation at home. “Goodnight Moon is a favorite, and he’s in love with every car, bus, plane or truck he can find,” she says.

Julie Andrews Talks Kids, Grandkids and Her New Children’s Poetry Book

Published October 12, 2012 by gossipzoo

Richard Phibbs

One of Julie Andrews‘s favorite childhood memories is of her father reading to her when she was a young girl growing up in England.

“My father had a lovely way of reading,” recalls the iconic star of Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. “He had a very nice voice, and he really made sure I understood the words. What was so endearing is that he suddenly became rather formal when he read, and I so enjoyed watching him do it properly for me.”

Now the 77-year-old screen legend is passing on that passion for books to her own eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Andrews and her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton, 49, teamed to produce a new children’s poetry anthology, Julie Andrews’ Treasury for All Seasons: Poems and Songs to Celebrate the Year.

The book — which features kid-friendly poems from Robert Frost, Dr. Seuss, Walt Whitman and Jack Prelutsky, among others — is the 22nd children’s book collaboration between Andrews and Hamilton. Both mother and daughter encourage parents to read aloud to their children.

“Those are the memories that will last a lifetime,” says Emma. “Mom carried on that tradition with us, and I continue to carry it on with my children. Reading equals love.”
