No, you’re not being Punk’d.
The Weinstein Company – the movie studio behind Oscar winners such as The King’s Speech and The Artist – announced Friday that pop-country crooner Taylor Swift will be joining the cast of The Giver, their long-awaited adaptation of the Newbery-winning novel you were probably forced to read in 7th grade.
The 23-year-old, who’s predominately known for singing songs about her exes, will star alongside Academy Award winners Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges as The Giver’s daughter Rosemary in the dystopian drama. Other cast members include Brenton Thwaites, Katie Holmes, Alexander Skarsgard, Odeya Rush and Cameron Monaghan.
Previously, Swift appeared in both the Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience and Hannah Montana: The Movie as herself before making her film debut in 2010 s Valentine’s Day.
Production for The Giver begins Oct. 7 in Cape Town, South Africa. Its release date has been set for August 15, 2014.
Like, was Jennifer Lawrence not available for this? Shailene Woodley? Hailee Steinfeld? Chloe Grace Moretz? Emma Watson? Heck, I think we’d even take Kristen Stewart at this point.
