Manchester United once more miraculously welcome back two players deemed unfit for England duty this week, with Phil Jones and Michael Carrick both shaking off their problems to be fit, while Ashley Young is also available after a five-match absence. He has recovered from a knee injury to boost United’s wide options.
Everton manager David Moyes still has some questions marks over the fitness of midfielder Marouane Fellaini, but he is optimistic the Belgian will be available at Old Trafford. He scored the winner on the opening game of the season, but he has had a hip injury that kept him out of his own country’s international friendly in midweek.
Phil Jagielka is also expected to be involved despite missing England’s 2-1 victory against Brazil, but defenders Seamus Coleman and Tony Hibbert are both still out.
While their noisy neighbours struggle for form, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are currently on the way to their best Premier League season ever: United’s 62-point haul is their best ever return after 25 games so far. But the season didn’t start quite so well, with a 1-0 defeat to today’s opposition Everton at Goodison Park, and while United are above revenge – according to Sir Alex at least – they will no doubt be looking to wipe that off the board with a victory at Old Trafford against David Moyes’ men.
Moyes himself has been attracting interest from Chelsea and Man City (according to the Sunday Mirror) after an impressive season with Everton that sees them knocking on the door of Champions League qualification. He will be hoping he can emulate the result from the opening game of the season, or at least the 4-4 draw from last year – albeit without quite so much pressure.
